We are currently seeking a Specialist Teacher to work in Canolfan y Mor and Canolfan Croeso at Aberaeron Comprehensive School. The Specialist Teacher will work under the direction of the Headteacher and ALNCo at the school.
Canolfan y Mor caters for pupils in Key Stage 3, 4 and 5 who have difficulties in interacting socially and who have associated behaviours. The majority of the pupils will experience difficulties in adjusting to the new routines and expectations of a secondary school.
CyM offers a caring location where children and young people receive a longer period in a small group without the pressure of having to integrate into the mainstream too hurriedly. The Centre offers full access to the National Curriculum, which will be suitable, differentiated to the individual needs of the pupils. Each pupil has access to individually tailored programmes to meet his/her needs. Where necessary the pupils will follow programmes of work, which will focus on the development of life skills to encourage the development of the necessary skills to improve independence. Pupils are integrated into mainstream education when appropriate.
Canolfan Croeso is an exciting development to the skills for life provision at Aberaeron Comprehensive School. Pupils at Canolfan Croeso study a range of subjects and have access to mainstream where appropriate. Canolfan Croeso is for pupils across the three key stages of secondary education who require additional support. The Canolfan will support pupils’ Skills for Life development.
We are seeking a Specialist Teacher who has proven teaching excellence and the ability to create meaningful relationships and inspire pupils with social communication difficulties and their associated behaviours. The successful applicant will be able to teach across a range of subject areas and have a commitment to promoting the development of social interaction and independence skills in the pupils at Canolfan y Mor and Canolfan Croeso.
The successful applicant will need to register with the Education Workforce Council in order to be appointed to this post.
